First and foremost, I want to give a huge thank you to my neighbors Jim and Kelly for letting Kiley and I stay in their beautiful home and being amazing hosts! Seriously, you guys are the best!
For those of you who don’t know, Portugal is my grandmother’s homeland so being able to come here and explore this beautiful country with my sister was a very special experience.
During our trip Kiley and I stayed in Albufeira. We spent our first full day just walking around, specifically in the Old Town. Old Town is rich with history and has a ton of cool shops and restaurants. The historic architecture and views in Old Town are incredible.
Praia dos Pescadores is the main beach by Old Town. You can rent beach chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, and a ton of other things at this beach.
On our second day, Kiley and I took an Uber to Praia da Marinha, where we started the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail (you can also start the hike from Praia do Vale de Centeanes). This was one of the most unique and beautiful hikes I’ve ever been on. The trail itself is relatively easy and has markers to guide you throughout the hike. The hike provided breathtaking views of rock formations and beaches along the Algarve coast. There is even a spot where you can look into the Benagil Cave.
When we were done with the hike, we headed down to Praia da Marinha where we spent the rest of the day relaxing. This beach is well known for its beauty, and it did not disappoint.
On our third day, we went to Praia do Evaristo. Kelly had told us it’s her favorite beach and once we got there it was easy to see why. When you get down to the beach there is a pathway to the left where you can walk around and explore. There is also a restaurant and snack bar conveniently located at the beach.
For dinner that night, Jim and Kelly took us to Restaurante Ramires to get some Peri Peri chicken. We got two plates of chicken and it was delicious. If you want to check out their website, you can read about the history of the restaurant and Peri Peri chicken.
On this day, Kiley and I had booked a tour with SeaAlgarve to go to the Benagil Cave. The tour first consisted of a boat ride to the cave. Once we were close to the cave entrance we got into our kayak (you have the choice of a single or double kayak or a stand-up paddle board). We spent about ten minutes in the cave. Although beautiful, it was PACKED with people. Once we left the cave, we kayaked along the coast and went through some smaller caves. After an hour and a half we went back to the boat and they gave us some time to swim around the area before the boat ride back. The boat crew and tour guide were great and I thought the tour was definitely worth it.
When we were done with our tour we went to get a snack at Riviera. The Riviera had a great selection of pastries to choose from and the coffee was also great.
Later that night, Kiley and I went out to the strip. The strip has a ton of clubs, bars, and restaurants. We had a ton of fun and found that it was a great way to meet people who were our age.
On our fifth day, we went to Praia de Albandeira. This beach is not the easiest to get to, as you have to go down a very narrow dirt road; however, it was even harder to leave as all of our Ubers were canceling on us. The beach itself was gorgeous and is famously known for its arch. There is a path you can walk on when you get to the beach where you can walk on top of the arch and get an incredible view of the beach from above. The beach also has a restaurant called Bar Pirate where we got some tasty pizza.
On day six, we went to Praia dos Arrifes, which was my favorite beach. Like most of the other beaches, the rock formations were beautiful. The water here was also a lot calmer than most of the beaches we went to. However, the beach is quite small, making it best to go at low tide.
Afterwards, we headed to Bem Parece for a snack and coffee. The cafe was super cute and the pastel de nata’s were amazing.
As always, thank you for reading! In case you missed my last blog post, you can check it out here.
