Hello everyone! I had no plans of going to Kauai last month; in fact, my friend Lana asked me to go with her back in October, and I said no. Of course I ended up experiencing a severe case of FOMO and booked a ticket less than 12 hours before my flight took off. I also want to give Miss Lana a huge shout out for hosting me, playing tour guide, and driving me all over the island. It was truly an unforgettable trip, and I am so excited to share some of the fun things we did in this blog post! Without further ado, here are eight things you need to do in Kauai.
Most of my first day on Kauai was spent surfing at Hanalei Bay. This is an iconic surf spot, and I had a ton of fun here. If you don’t already have surfing experience, I highly recommend taking a lesson before paddling out on your own. Hawaiian Surfing Adventures offers lessons and also a large variety of boards to rent if you don’t have your own.
Wailua Falls is definitely up there on my list of most impressive waterfalls. This beautiful waterfall is over 80 ft high and will definitely take your breath away. There is a lookout point where you can view the waterfall, and it is possible to hike down to the bottom if you’re feeling adventurous.
Most of the beaches in Kauai were experiencing a swell while I was visiting; however, I still really wanted to free dive. Lana took me to a great shore diving spot at Poipu, where the waves were pretty calm. We saw a ton of fish, turtles, and an eel while free diving.
You absolutely have to try The Musubi Truck while in Kauai. Hands down, this is the best musubi I’ve ever had, and their truffle tater tots are also incredible. The setup is also super cute, and there are a ton of shops nearby if you want to go shopping after you eat.
Nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” Waimea Canyon is something you can’t miss on Kauai. There is a fee to access the lookout point if you are not a Hawaii resident. However, once at the lookout point, you’ll have breathtaking 360-degree views of the canyon.
Although it was a bit cloudy when we went to Secret Beach for sunrise, it was still amazing. To access the beach you will need to hike a short, but very steep distance. Once you reach the beach, you will be rewarded by the beautiful views.
On Kauai’s north shore is a beautiful spot where Lumahai River meets the ocean. Here, you can find rope swings and enjoy the amazing views. During the winter months, this is a generally safe place to swim because the water stays calm.
Lana’s Cafe (not my Lana, a different one) offers a variety of healthy and fresh food options. The smoothies here are to die for and the perfect refreshing treat. I also got some banana bread, and Lana got the mango sticky rice, and both were delicious.
As always, thank you so much for reading! I am so glad I decided to book that last minute ticket to Kauai and hope you enjoyed reading about my adventures. In case you missed my last blog post, you can click here to read it.
